Here's a quick "Eyes on the Street"-style gallery of today's event, which celebrated the completion of the controversial low-stress bike-ped route.

The CTA Yellow Line, aka the Skokie Swift, which runs between Skokie and Rogers Park, has remained out of commission for nearly a month since November 16, when a run crashed into a snow removal machine at Howard Street station. Slowing the train down is the first step to bringing it back.

It's infuriating that a person who was entrusted to help keep the public safe was reckless enough to take her eyes off the road while driving to pick up a phone, with tragic consequences.

Streetsblog recently caught up with CDOT Complete Streets Director David Smith for a recap of what bike infrastructure, much of it protected lanes, was built in our city this year.

The route is partially finished between Diversey Parkway and Montrose Avenue, and it will soon extend to Berwyn Avenue.

And fortunately, despite what the news release stated, the RLE is still predicted to cut the commute time from 130th to the Loop by 30 minutes.
