Kids on Bikes Where You Live

Here’s something to be thankful for over this holiday break: Kids on bicycles. A beautiful thing. We got so many submissions for this one, it was truly inspiring.

Many thanks to all who contributed, including Sarah Gilbert at cafemama, rbairdpccam, baudman, Julian Davies of Totcycle, Barry Childress of Baltimore Spokes, Richard Masoner of Cyclelicious, Liam Patrick Quigley of Cyclosity, Chris Brown of Brown Cycles, Matt Uhrig at Bike Jax, Bicycles Only, and the amazing folks at ITDP.

Thanks, too, to all of you who sent in photos we didn’t use. Your kids are gorgeous and it was a joy to see them all.

If you want to see more of the fabulous submissions we received but didn’t have room to squeeze into the slide show, head over to see a fine collection on Flickr. Feel free to tag more photos with "kidbikes" and "streetsblog" so that we can consider them for future shows.

Happy Thanksgiving, people. Enjoy the ride.

Space Hogs Where You Live

|
It’s time for another slide show from the Streetsblog Network. Last time, we asked you for images of bike traffic from around the country. You can see the result here. This time, we were looking for pictures of cars and other motor vehicles hogging space. And boy, did you deliver. We had dozens of submissions […]

And the Kiddies + Cities Photography Winners Are…

Many thanks to the 90 readers who sent photos of city life and car-free transportation with children, and also to the 639 of you who voted. We are happy to announce the two winners of a free Breezer bike. This picture of Dave Cowan’s daughter, Isabelle, ran away with 259 votes — an impressive 41 […]

Bike to School Day Photos From Across the U.S.

|
Today is Bike to School Day, and tens of thousands of American children (hopefully more) are learning how rewarding and fun it can be to get to school on two wheels. Walking and biking to school accounted for 50 percent of all school trips in 1969, compared to 13 percent today. Now it’s not even permitted […]

Bikes at Work Where You Live, Part 1

|
Wow. Our call for pictures of work bikes elicited such an overwhelming response — more than 300 photos — that we almost didn’t know where to begin. It’s truly inspirational and delightful to see how people around the world use bicycles for work (and in some cases to haul some serious gear for play). There […]

Transit in Trouble Where You Live

|
Let’s get one thing straight right off the bat: We love transit. Love love love. But that’s why we hate it so much when transit infrastructure and transit riders are neglected. And they are. The nation’s buses and trains and light rail are too often underfunded, dismissed, vandalized and disrespected. Transit riders deserve better. We […]

Bike Traffic Where You Live

|
Last week we put out a call to readers and members of the Streetsblog Network for photos of bike traffic. We got a ton of great responses, and in the slide show below, you’ll see what our readers are seeing around the country: bikes in action, and in growing numbers. [smooth=id:11;] Many thanks to Bike […]
