The latest streets and transportation news from Streetsblog USA.

Our two top stories today assess two widely different challenges being faced by the biking community right now. First, let’s hear from our friends at the Seattle Bike Blog about how Rad Power Bikes, a leading e-bike maker, is facing extinction.

We don’t often cover the retail side of our movement, but this seemed like a watershed moment for that company … and all of us who believe that e-bikes play a huge rule in reducing car dependence.

And our second top story comes straight from the mouth of one of the country’s most-powerful transportation policy makers: Rep. Sam Graves of Missouri says he doesn’t want any of that biking or walking stuff in the next surface reauthorization bill, which Kea Wilson has been watching closely.

Graves says he wants a “normal” highway bill. But he’s ignoring what “normal” means when it comes to how America spends transportation dollars: More highways, more traffic, more waste.

These are must-read pieces.
